Gladiators Drop 4-2 Decision to Sea Wolves
December 12, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators dropped a 4-2 decision against the Mississippi Sea Wolves in Friday night in front of 9,556 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators were held scoreless for a total of 98:47 minutes against the Sea Wolves, after being blanked Wednesday night 2-0 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Ryan Cruthers of the Sea Wolves opened up the scoring at 10:43 of the second period when he poked the puck in past Kevin Nastiuk. Cruthers notched another for Mississippi just two and a half minutes later to push the Sea Wolves' lead to two.
Brandon Kaleniecki finally put the Gladiators on the board near the end of the second with a slap shot from the right faceoff circle. The puck found nothing but net past Riku Helenius' left side.
Ryan Menei increased the goal differential on a power play at 3:21 of the final period to give Mississippi a 3-1 lead. Mike Berry scored five minutes later to push the lead to four, but the celebration was short-lived as Gwinnett's Jordan Fox tallied a marker just eight seconds later to cut the Sea Wolves' lead in half once more.
Mississippi net minder Helenius faced an incredible 51 shots on goal, while Gwinnett's Nastiuk faced a mere 21 shots.
The Gladiators take the ice again against the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Saturday, December 13th at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum at 8:05 p.m.
