December 12, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH- Mike McLean had his second straight two-goal game to lead the Dayton Bombers 4-3 past the visiting Charlotte Checkers at the Nutter Center on Friday night.
The Checkers got things started a mere 20 seconds into the game when Mike Taylor scored his sixth goal of the season past Paul Drew. Drew, who was making his first start of the month, faced just two more shots in the period, but was trailing 1-0 at the end of one.
It was the Bombers who once again came alive in the second period, scoring twice from Dan Riedel, assisted by Jarret Lukin and Joe van Culin, and Mike McLean, with helpers from Justin Bowers and Nathan Schwartzbauer. At the end of two periods the Bombers led 2-0; shots on goal were tied at 14 a piece.
The Bombers extended their lead to 3-1 less than 3 minutes into the third period when Danny LaPointe took a feed from Bowers and McLean. The Checkers, however, answered back with a pair of goals to tie the game at 3 with under 10 minutes remaining. Then at the 17:16 mark Mike McLean put the puck past Charlotte's Jeff Jakaitis for the game winner.
The Bombers finished the night 0 for 4 on the power play and 6 of 7 on the penalty kill. Dayton's Paul Drew was 21 of 24 for his fifth win of the year, while Jakaitis went 22 of 26.
The Bombers and Checkers will square off again on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Nutter Center. It's Trading Card Set #3 Giveaway to the first 1,500 fans. The set includes Paul Drew, Jarret Lukin, Joe Van Culin, Tom Zanoski and head coach Bill McDonald, who will have a post-game autograph session.
