Salmon Kings Shutout RoadRunners 7-0

VICTORIA, British Columbia - The Victoria Salmon Kings scored four-times in the second period and cruised behind goalie Todd Ford to a 7-0 victory over the Phoenix RoadRunners before 4,249 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in ECHL action Friday.

The Salmon Kings (15-9-2) scored on the second shift of the game when former RoadRunners' forward Sean O'Connor re-directed Tim Wedderburn's shot from the left point past goalie Craig Kowalski 16 seconds into the first period for a 1-0 lead.

Victoria opened their second period assault when Chris St. Jacques put back Dylan Yeo's rebound behind Kowalski 1:55 into the frame for a 2-0 advantage. Jacob Dietrich added to the lead scoring his fourth goal of the year at 5:00 to make it 3-0. Darryl Lloyd then got into the scoring act at 14:34 when a RoadRunners turnover behind the net turned into a goal as Lloyd put back St. Jacques rebound to increase the Salmon Kings lead to 4-0. Curtis Billsten put an end to Kowalski's night with his fourth goal of the season scoring an unassisted shorthanded goal at 15:53 to make it 5-0 Victoria after 40 minutes.

Lloyd put away any thoughts of a RoadRunners comeback when he scored his second goal of the game 54 seconds into the third period. Yeo capped the scoring with a power play goal at 19:44 of the third.

Victoria out-shot Phoenix (11-9-2) 39-26. Kowalski stopped 22 shots and took the loss to drop to 8-7-1 on the season. The RoadRunners went 0-4 with the power play while Victoria was 1-10 with the man-advantage.

Notes: Phoenix has lost nine consecutive games at Victoria. The RoadRunners last win at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre was a 1-0 overtime victory on Jan. 28, 2006. Phoenix also has not scored a goal in their last 137:47 minutes in Canada...The Salmon Kings first goal 16 seconds into the hockey game was their fastest goal to start a game in team history...Defenseman Brett Peterson skated in his 300th career game...O'Connor's goal was his first in five games against his former club. The Victoria native led the RoadRunners last season with a career-high 27 tallies.
