Hits Hard to Come by in 2-0 Bisons Loss
September 4, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
In a game were hits were few and far between, the RailRiders had just enough offense to hand the Bisons a 2-0 defeat, Friday night at PNC Field. The victory gave the IL North division champions a two-game sweep of the Herd.
The loss is also the 20th shutout defeat suffered by Buffalo this year. The Bisons are 67-74 with just a three-game series in Pawtucket to close out the 2015 regular season.
The RailRiders had three hits and the Bisons had two. However, the RailRiders put two of their hits together to scratch across the only run they would need for the victory. In the third inning, Taylor Dugas and Juan Graterol led off the frame with line drives off Herd starter Chad Jenkins. Two batters later, Ali Castillo beat out a potential inning-ending doubleplay to allow Dugas to score from third base.
The only other hit allowed by the Bisons pitching staff was a fourth inning double to RailRiders' centerfielder Jake Cave. That came after a Kyle Roller one out walk, allowing him to move the third base and score on Cito Culver's sacrifice fly.
The Bisons, meanwhile, had next to nothing going offensively on Friday night. Danny Dorn's lead-off single in the fifth inning broke up Chris Capuano's no-hit bid and gave Buffalo just their second base runner all night. Dorn was erased three pitches later when Andy Burns hit into a doubleplay.
Alex Hassan had the Herd's other hit, a two-out single in the seventh inning. A pair of walks by Jon Berti and Ryan Schimpf in the eighth inning gave Buffalo their only at-bat with a runner in scoring position. Ty Kelly struck out swinging against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre closer, Chris Martin.
The hard-luck loser was Chad Jenkins, dropping the righty's record to 8-6. Jenkins allowed just two runs on three hits in six innings of work. Chad Girodo and Steve Delabar each pitched an inning of shutout relief for the Bisons.
