Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Larry Parrish has guided the Toledo Mud Hens to more victories than any other manager in team history. As we say thank you to LP for his ten years as Mud Hens skipper, he wants to thank fans for their support over the years.
"Toledo has been a home away from home for me. We've had a ton of support here. It's been a great place to manage and a great place for the guys to play in." Parrish says he's been touched by the number of people wishing him well as he retires. "It's been amazing how many people have stopped me over recent weeks. It tells me how much I've been part of the community and the community has been a part of me."
Parrish served as Mud Hens manager for 10 seasons (1994, 2003-2006, 2008-2010, 2014-15). That includes back-to-back IL Governors' Cup championships in 2005 and 2006, being named IL Manager of the Year and Minor League Manager of the Year by the Sporting News in 2005, and being elected to the IL Hall of Fame as a manager in 2013. Parrish also managed the Detroit Tigers in 1998 and 1999.
Parrish says he'll miss playing golf in the Toledo area, but he's ready to spend more time back home in Georgia. "The travel, I've done it for so many years. I'm looking forward to being home and spend time with my family."
As a player, Parrish spent 15 years in the majors with Montreal, Texas and Boston, and was a two-time All-Star (1979, 1987). He hit .263 with 256 home runs and 992 RBI over his MLB career. Parrish also played two seasons in Japan.
