CHARLESTON, SC - Baseball and blues have historically been a great combination, and the Charleston RiverDogs are bringing the two together to Hit a Home Run for Arts in Schools with a special pregame concert on Mother's Day, May 8.

South Carolina blues legend Mac Arnold and his band Plate Full of Blues, will team with local students to perform a pregame set before the RiverDogs entertain the Lakewood BlueClaws. The performance is slated to begin at 4 pm, an hour before the first pitch of the game.

Arnold's I Can Do Anything Foundation seeks to preserve music education in the public school systems, and local music personas are joining with Arnold to help reinforce the need for children to gain this knowledge.

Dr. James Braunreuther, a Charleston County Fine Arts Learning Specialist, and Scott Shanklin-Petersen, the College of Charleston's Arts Management Program Director, are just two of the luminaries who have collaborated for the event.

Clips from Mac's DVD Documentary "Nothing to Prove," will also be shown during the game and postgame. Arnold's I Can Do Anything Foundation seeks to preserve music education in the public school systems.

"The performance will help reinforce the need of music education in public schools, and we're happy to be involved with this," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "Dr. Braunreuther and Dr. Shanklin-Peterson have all collaborated with the event, and we're certain that everyone will enjoy their presentation."
