Salisbury, Md. - In conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, the Delmarva Shorebirds are pleased to announce that shortstop Manny Machado has been named the Orioles Minor League Player of the Month for April. The honor comes just one day after Machado was named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for the week of April 25 through May 1. The 18-year old hit .338 with four home runs and 18 RBIs in the month of April.

In 21 games in April, Machado notched 27 hits, six doubles, two triples, four home runs and 18 RBIs. He also showed great patience at the plate with 16 walks and only 11 strikeouts. In addition, Machado had ten multi-hit games during the month.

The Miami, Florida native went homerless in his first 15 games of the season. Then, he exploded for home runs in three straight games (May 25-27). Machado hit four home runs in the final six games in April.

Machado leads the Shorebirds in runs scored (20), home runs (5), RBIs (21), walks (18), on-base percentage (.445) and slugging percentage (.611).

The Orioles also announced that Wynn Pelzer was named the Minor League Pitcher of the Month.
