Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats will be partnering with City Church and other local churches and businesses to aid victims of the recent tornadoes and storms in the Southeast. The Sand Gnats will offer a FREE general admission ticket, with the purchase of a general admission ticket, to their home game on Tuesday, May 10 against the Hickory Crawdads to anyone who donates desperately needed items to the recovery efforts. Donors will receive a voucher for a buy-one-get-one free ticket offer.
Donations can be dropped off at the Sand Gnats front office at Historic Grayson Stadium from 9 am-5 pm Monday-Friday, 9 am - 4 pm on Saturday and 9 am -1 pm on Sunday. Donations will be accepted at the Box Office for Tuesday's game.
City Church, located at 125 MLK Jr. Blvd, is accepting donations from 9 am - 4 pm, Monday through Friday, or before, during or after Sunday services. They will be transporting items to Alabama on Thursday, May 12.
"We were all saddened by the destruction that these storms did to communities in our state and in our neighboring states," said Gnats team President John Katz. "There are hundreds of people dead and hundreds more missing. When Jim (Simpson) and Brian (Buchanan) of City Church reached out to us to help collect donations, we thought it was appropriate to reward all of those who donate to the relief effort with Sand Gnats tickets."
Urgently needed items include: School supplies (for classes of all ages), blankets, clothing (all sizes, including t-shirts, jeans, shorts, socks & jackets), children's clothing, feminine products, diapers, baby food, insulin and other necessary medicines, toys for smaller children, bottled water, packaged food for distribution (including juice, fruit cups, and other healthy non-perishable items), and paper products (including paper towels, Kleenex and toilet paper).
