Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Lexington, KY - The Lexington Legends scored unanswered runs in bunches to pick up a pair of wins over the Augusta GreenJackets on Tuesday night. The Legends won 15-2 in a game suspended from Monday and earned an 8-4 win in the regularly scheduled game that was shortened to seven innings. Lexington took three of four from Augusta, who has dropped the first six series of the season.
Entering play on Tuesday, the GreenJackets trailed 4-0 to the Legends after Lexington put four runs across in the second inning. Augusta cut that lead in half with a Raynor Campbell solo home run and a Devin Harris RBI double in the fifth inning and trailed by just two at the point.
Lexington would go on to score 11 unanswered runs - three in the fifth, four in the sixth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth - to pull away to a 15-2 lead against the GreenJackets bullpen. Mario Rodriguez (0-2) allowed all four second inning runs and took the loss while Carlos Quevedo (3-0) survived the two Augusta runs in the fifth to fire seven strong innings in the win for the Legends.
In the nightcap, Augusta scored four times in the first to hand Seth Rosin a big lead, but it wasn't Rosin's night as the big righty lasted just one inning. After Devin Harris drilled a two-run double and Jeff Arnold provided a two-run home run - his second homer of the series - to put Augusta up 4-0, Rosin surrendered a two-out, two strike, bases loaded single to Jhonny Medrano that cut Augusta's lead in half. An error brought home a third run before Roberto Pena singled home two more to give the Legends a lead they didn't lose.
Rosin then surrendered a triple and a Ben Orloff RBI double at the start of the second inning and was removed after that. He retired only three of the 11 hitters he faced and was charged with seven earned runs on five hits after a groundout brought home another run to make it 7-4. Rosin (0-2) struck out two in the game.
After a third inning groundout made it an 8-4 Legends lead, the GreenJackets had their only good chance to get back in the game in the fourth inning as reliever Yordanny Ramirez walked the bases loaded with two outs. Alex Sogard came out of the bullpen and got Ryan Scoma to fly out to center to end the inning as the GreenJackets never came closer.
Sogard (1-1) allowed a hit and walked two in 3.1 scoreless innings to get the win for the Legends.
After a day off on Wednesday, the GreenJackets return home to open an eight-game homestand with the first of four against the West Virginia Power. Austin Fleet (2-2, 5.49) gets the start in the opener on a Thirsty Thursday against West Virginia's Zack Von Rosenberg (0-1, 6.41) First pitch will come at 7:05 with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
