Portland Winterhawks News Release
Shane Farkas recorded his second straight shutout as Portland blanked the Americans 5-0 in Kennewick on Saturday.
Portland got on the board first, with Kieffer Bellows tapping home a Dennis Cholowski pass to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, Skyler McKenzie fed Cody Glass in the slot, who then buried his 32nd of the season to make it 2-0.
In the second, the Hawks extended their lead to three, when Glass scored his second of the game just 1:17 into the period. For Glass, it was his 33rd of the season, which gives him a new career high. Lane Gilliss extended Portland's lead to four on a gorgeous tip on a Henri Jokiharju point shot.
In the third, it was Gilliss again scoring for Portland just 2:06 into the period. Gricius found Gilliss in alone on a breakaway, who then beat Patrick Dea shelf to make it 5-0. Shane Farkas held the fort the rest of the way for Portland, ending up with 30 saves to record his second straight shutout. He is the first Winterhawks goaltender to record back-to-back shutouts since Adin Hill did it on January 3rd and 4th in 2015. Portland improved to 39-20-1-4 overall on the season and 22-8-1-1 on the road.
The Winterhawks are on the road tomorrow in Seattle against the Thunderbirds. The Hawks then head to Prince George for back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday and return home Saturday against the Tri-City Americans for the 1998 Memorial Cup Reunion and Hall of Fame induction. Tickets on sale here, and single game and group tickets now on sale.
