Game Day Preview: Pats Visit Edmonton for Final Meeting with Oil Kings Sunday

The Regina Pats (34-25-5-1) continue their Central Division road trip on Sunday afternoon in Edmonton against the Oil Kings (19-37-6-2). Puck drop is at 5 p.m. Regina time at Rogers Place. The Pats were in Calgary on Saturday night and came from behind to win 3-2 in overtime. The Oil Kings were last in action on Friday night, beating Calgary in overtime as well, 4-3 the final. Tonight is the fourth and final meeting on the season between the Pats and Oil Kings, Regina holds a 2-0-1-0 record in the season series. The Lead Up: Pats come from behind to win in Calgary Saturday

The Regina Pats kicked off their Alberta road swing with a 3-2 overtime victory in Calgary over the Hitmen on Saturday night. Regina trailed 1-0 after one and then 2-0 early in the third. Aaron Hyman got the comeback started with his second of the season and then Jake Leschyshyn tied it at two with his 16th and the Pats went to overtime for the 11th time this season. In the extra frame, Cameron Hebig sprung Sam Steel on a breakaway and he went backhand to score his 25th, giving the Pats a 3-2 win. Hebig led the offence with a three assist night while Max Paddock made 23 saves. Regina outshot Calgary 34-25, the powerplay was oh for two and the penalty kill went two for two.

Head to Head

Tonight is the fourth and final meeting between the Pats and Oil Kings, Regina is 2-0-1-0 in the season series. The Pats have outscored Edmonton 11-9, the powerplay has gone five for 11 and the penalty kill nine for 12. Matt Bradley and Austin Pratt each have five points against Edmonton this season. Josh Mahura has three points while five others have put up two points. Edmonton's Trey Fix-Wolansky and Tomas Soustal have each put up four points against Regina while Connor McDonald has three points.

#1 for Hyman

Pats defenceman Aaron Hyman scored his first goal in a Pats uniform on Saturday night in Calgary. The 19-year-old started the comeback in the third when he cut to the slot and beat Nick Schneider for his second of the year. Hyman, who hails from Calgary, was acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds on January 10 and in 21 games since then has a goal and three assists to go along with a plus four rating.

Steel Extends Streak

With the overtime winner on Saturday, Pats captain Sam Steel extended his point streak to seven games. The signed first round pick of the Anaheim Ducks has scored four goals and has seven assists in that stretch. In 21 games since returning from winning goals with Team Canada at the World Juniors, Steel has scored 11 goals and has 26 assists for 37 points. For the season, the 19-year-old has 25 goals and 72 points in 48 games.
