Everett Silvertips News Release

LANGLEY, British Columbia - After giving up the first goal to Jared Dmytriw, the Everett Silvertips scored six unanswered goals and cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Vancouver Giants before 3,537 fans on Sunday at Langley Events Centre in WHL action.

The Silvertips took the season series, 5-1-0-0 and outscored Vancouver, 29-6 in the season series. Kevin Davis scored two goals while the Silvertips scored four times in the second period. Dustin Wolf had 28 saves for the win in net. The Tips reduced their magic number to 5 points to clinch home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, and 7 points for the U.S. Division title.

UP NEXT: The Silvertips take five days off and return to action Saturday, Mar. 10 against the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:05 p.m. (1380 AM / FM 95.3 / WHL Live / Tips App).

The Tips had great looks to start the first as they went on the power play 40 seconds into the game. Trent Miner, the netminder for the Giants, was extremely sharp in the first period and stopped 13 shots overall. Vancouver kept Wolf fairly busy in the Tips' end as he faced 10 shots. Vancouver got the scoring going as Jared Dmytriw slipped to the front from the left wing, past Wolf at 13:35 to make it 1-0 Giants. Dewar tied up the game less than 5 minutes later when he buried his own rebound after initially planting a wrist shot off Miner's pads from the left wing.

The second period was all Tips, who dumped four goals on the Giants to take a 5-1 lead. At 8:43, Bryce Kindopp went into the slot against Miner and got a wrist shot past him to make it 2-1 Tips. Then at 12:25, Kevin Davis got the insurance goal as he got the puck behind Miner thanks to a nifty set-up by Matt Fonteyne and Connor Dewar, followed by Davis batting the puck out of the air past the Giants goaltender.

At 15:36, Garrett Pilon scored on a penalty shot after being tripped on a breakaway, making it 4-1 Tips with his deke to the forehand. The second period ended wildly as Kevin Davis finished a rebound for a power play goal with less than a second left to make it 5-1 Tips.

Dustin Wolf saved all 6 shots faced in the second and Everett had 16 shots.

The third period saw things start to settle down for the Giants as they were able to regain some composure and they had more possession and time in the offensive zone. But Dustin Wolf continued to shine throughout the third as he stopped 13 shots. The Tips got their final goal of the evening at 7:35 as Riley Sutter scored a power play goal, a deflection with help from Wyatte Wylie and Sean Richards to make it 6-1 Tips.

Dustin Wolf's counterpart, Trent Miner, made 31 saves.
