Happ-y Return For Thurston
August 3, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
Buoyed by J.A. Happ's 6+ innings of no-hit ball, the Lynx pounded the Chiefs 5-0.
The win bumps the Lynx record to 43-70 while Syracuse falls to 51-61.
Lynx Players Of The Day: J.A. Happ flirted with the first Lynx no-hitter since 1999, allowing only one hit over 6.2 innings of shutout ball. At the plate, Joe Thurston marked his return to the Lynx lineup with three hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Game Recap: While Happ was mowing down Syracuse batters, striking out eight Chiefs over 6.2 innings of one-hit ball, the Lynx couldn't get anything going until the bottom of the sixth. The Lynx manufactured a run when Joe Thurston led off with a double, moving to third on Jason Jaramillo's groundout and scoring on a Gary Burnham sacrifice fly. The Ottawa offence exploded for four insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh, starting with Matt Padgett's leadoff home run. Thurston's second double of the night cashed in Gookie Dawkins and Javon Moran. Gary Burnham later drove in Thurston with an RBI single. That lead was more than enough as Mike Zagurski and Yoel Hernandez combined for 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Happ, resulting in a 5-0 Lynx win.
Next Game: The Lynx host Syracuse in the second game of their four-game series. First pitch Saturday afternoon is 1:05 pm.
Probable Pitchers: Saturday vs. Syracuse: Ottawa RHP John Ennis (4-2, 3.45) takes on Syracuse RHP Jeremy Cummings (1-1, 3.75) on Emergency Services Night. Emergency services personnel can take advantage of their own day with $5 tickets. Anyone presenting valid work identification from one of the emergency services can buy a ticket for only five bucks!
