Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves and Virginia Commonwealth University's Massey Cancer Center will team up in the fight against cancer on Sunday, August 5 when the Braves host Louisville at 2 PM. The Braves invite anyone who has battled, beaten or been affected by the disease to attend the event.
Sunday will be a celebration of life and will provide an opportunity to raise awareness along with support for cancer research. The event will provide not just monetary support but will encourage those currently battling the disease. The first 1,400 in attendance will receive a purple t-shirt and everyone is invited to participate in a pre-game parade. Anyone interested in marching in the parade, should be at the Braves' bullpen on the first base side of The Diamond at 1:20 p.m.
The VCU Massey Center is one of 63 National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Centers. The center provides not only cancer research but offers various treatment options.
The Braves will don specially made purple jerseys for the game on Sunday. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the game. You may bid on the jerseys through the club's website at, www.rbraves.com/auction. The Atlanta Braves have also provided autographed memorabilia which will be included during the in-game silent auction. The in-game auction will commence at 12:45 p.m. and will last until the end of the seventh inning. The auction table will be located on the main concourse behind home plate. All of the proceeds from each of the auctions will go directly to the Massey Cancer Center on the VCU medical campus.
