TONIGHT'S GAME: Is the fourth of a four game series (Indianapolis has won two of three) and the 12th of 12 meetings, the sixth of six here. Richmond is 5-6 vs. the Indians, 2-3 at The Diamond. The Braves are 60-80 all-time vs. Indianapolis. The 40th of 48 games vs. West Division clubs; the 16th of 24 at home. Richmond is 19-20 vs. the West, 8-7 at The Diamond. Game four of a six game homestand. Richmond is 1-2. The Braves lead the South Division by one and a half games over Durham.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Indians beat the Braves 4-3 at The Diamond Thursday. The Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held off several late Richmond rallies to send the Braves down to their sixth loss in their last seven games. The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Brian Bixler. The Indians erupted for three more runs in the fifth to open up a 4-0 advantage. Bixler knocked in a run with a single and Jose Hernandez doubled two home. The Braves battled back with a run in the in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Wes Timmons. The Braves cut the Indians lead to 4-3 with a pair of runs in the seventh. Barbaro Canizares knocked one in with a sac fly and Timmons chased one home with a single. The Braves had the go-ahead run on base in the eighth and ninth but were turned away. Michael Tejera earned the win. Moises Hernandez took the loss in his Triple-A debut. Frquelis Osoria notched a save. Hernandez and Bixler had two hits each for the Indians. Brent Lillibridge had two hits for Richmond.
CAN'T TELL THE PLAYERS WITHOUT A PROGRAM: RHP Lance Cormier has been promoted to Atlanta. Cormier was 4-2 3.46 in 10 starts with Richmond. RHP Moises Hernadez, who made his Triple-A debut last night, has been re-assigned to Mississippi. LHP Jo-Jo Reyes has been optioned to Richmond and will re-join the active roster upon his arrival. He was 0-1 8.72 in five starts with Atlanta. Reyes also had three hits in eight at bats with Atlanta. The R-Braves roster now stands at 22 (11 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders, and two outfielders), with five players on the Disabled List. The R-Braves have made 99 roster moves this season and have used 52 players. The Braves have made 17 roster moves since July 28.
STILL ON TOP: The Braves lead in the South is down to one and a half games, their smallest since April 16. The Braves have lead the South every day since April 11.
K-TRAIN: Braves pitchers claimed nine strikeout victims last night. They are averaging 8.7 strikeouts a game over their last six contests, including two seven-inning games. Braves pitchers have 52 strikeouts in their last 47 innings.
OF STREAKS AND MEN: Wes Timmons has hits in five straight games (7-15 .467). Brandon Jones (5-14 .357) has hits in four straight games., Iker Franco and Jonathan Schuerholz three game hitting streaks ended as pinch hitters last night.
ON THE LEADER BOARD: The Braves still lead the IL in ERA (3.61), shutouts (13), and fewest home runs allowed (71). The Braves are second in steals (114). Richmond is now tied for second in the league in hitting (.267). Martin Prado is second in batting average (.318). The Braves lead the IL in fielding percentage (.984) and fewest errors (66). The Braves lead the IL in percentage of opponents caught stealing (59-142 .415).
HANDS OFF: The Braves equaled a season high by committing three errors last night. Richmond has five errors in their last two games after committing a total of five errors over 17 games from July 19 through the first game of the August 1 doubleheader. The Braves have committed three errors in a game four times this season.
