Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - August 3, 2007 - After struggling offensively the last two games, the Knights needed a game where their starting pitcher would control the game from the first pitch. That is just what happened during the Knights 4-1 win over Toledo at Knights Stadium on Friday night.
Phillips had his best outing of the season as he worked 7.1 innings allowing no runs off 2 hits. Phillips also had 6 strikeouts on the night and earned his 10th victory of the season. For Phillips it is the second straight season where he has reached double figures in wins.
Phillips even made the highlight defensive play of the night, bare-handing a comeback groundball and throwing to first base to get the final out of the fourth inning.
The Knights gave their starter some late inning run support. Third baseman Adam Ricks knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI double in the 7th inning. After catcher Ryan Smith got hit by a pitch to load bases, center fielder Jason Bourgeois grounded into a force out that allowed the Knights second run of the game to score.
Reliever David Aardsma earned his 8th save of the season by pitching the final 1.2 innings. For Aardsma, it was his 7th straight converted save opportunity.
The Knights will have a brief two game road trip in Durham over the weekend before starting a 7 game home stand on Tuesday against the Richmond Braves. The Knights will start RHP Lance Broadway (6-6, 4.09 ERA), while LHP Mike Prochaska (1-0, 0.90 ERA) will start for Durham.
