
Indians Sign Scott Elarton, Assigned to Bisons

The Cleveland Indians today announced that the club has signed RHP Scott Elarton to a minor league contract and assigned him to the Bisons. He is scheduled to report to the Herd in Scranton/WB.
Elarton, 31, has spent the last season and a half with the Kansas City Royals. Elarton went 2-4 with a 10.46ERA in nine starts for the Royals this year (37.0IP, 53H, 43ER, 21BB, 13K). He also spent time on the DL with shoulder and ankle injuries.
Elarton pitched in the Indians organization in 2004 and 2005. He was signed as a free agent by the Tribe on May 25, 2004 and sent to the Bisons. He then made three starts with the Herd before being promoted to the Indians. He went 1-1 with a 3.15ERA in those three games with Buffalo (20.0IP, 19H, 7R, 7ER, 5BB, 10K). In his final start with the Bisons, he threw a complete-game four-hit shutout against Charlotte on June 7 (Bisons 10-0 win).
Elarton went on to go 3-5 with a 4.53ERA in 21 starts with Cleveland in '04. The following season, he was 11-9 with a 4.61ERA in 31 games with the Tribe.
Elarton owns a career Major League record of 56-60 with a 5.31ERA in 224 games and 170 starts (1050.0IP, 1091H, 620ER).
