***Scranton/WB holds a 0.5 game lead over the Bisons in the IL North Division with first place on the line tonight at PNC Field***
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in the first two games of a five-game in four-day series from PNC Field (Game 1: 5:30 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a two-game sweep of Pawtucket and is currently 3-3 on their season-long 11-game roadtrip. In tonight's doubleheader, the Bisons will turn to RHP Sean Smith and LHP Eric DuBose. The Yankees will counter with RHP Ian Kennedy and RHP Colter Bean. GO NORTH: All 32 of the Bisons remaining games are against International League North division teams. Buffalo's 30-18 record within the North is the best among the six teams. The Bisons are 4-3 against the Yankees this year, including a 2-1 series win at PNC Field, June 26-29. Infielder Andy Marte has hit .300 (6-20) with 3HR and 6RBI against the Yanks this year.
LET'S PLAY TWO: The Bisons have three sweeps and two splits in their six doubleheaders this season. Buffalo also took two games against Pawtucket on May 5 (one was a completed suspended game). Combined, the Herd is 10-4 when playing two.
GOOD COMBO: RHP Sean Smith is the Bisons team leader in wins (9) and strikeouts (72) and is 2nd on in innings pitched (109.2). He has also won four of his last six decisions. LHP Eric DuBose has collected the victory in each of his last two games with a 0.87ERA (10.1IP, 9H, R, ER, 2BB, 10K). DuBose is 2-0 with a 1.59ERA in Game 2 of doubleheaders this season.
ALL-STAR SLUGGER: Ryan Mulhern hit streak is now at seven games as the All-Star has hit .500 (12-24) since July 27. Mulhern has also driven in a run in six of his last seven games. He is now 4th in the league in average (.312) and T7th in RBI (62). He's also T3rd in doubles (31), 5th in slugging percentage (.510) and 8th in hits (114).
UN-COOPED: Two more hits yesterday gives Jason Cooper 10 in his last 18 at-bats (.536). With seven of the hits going for extra-bases (2HR), not only has the outfielder raised his batting average 23 points in the last five days (.238-.261), but his slugging percentage has risen 59 points (.419-.478). Cooper is 2nd on the Bisons with 33 extra-base hits.
