Hammer Time! Hamerlik Named ECHL Goaltender of Week

READING, PA – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have announced that goaltender Peter Hamerlik has been named the ITECH Hockey Saver of the Week. Hamerlik earns his first ECHL honors of the season, joining Royals teammates Adam Hauser (Oct. 17-19) and Cody Rudkowsky (Nov. 3-9), who earned the same award earlier in the season.

Hamerlik, 22, is currently under contract with the Boston Bruins. In four starts this week, the Slovakian native posted a perfect 4-0-0 record with a 1.25 goals against average and a .963 save percentage. Hamerlik stopped 129 of 134 shots this week. His stellar play vaulted the Royals into fourth place in the Northern Division, just three points out of third (Peoria). Hamerlik is 5-0-1 in his last six starts dating back to January 25, 2004. He began the season with the ECHL's Augusta Lynx. In seven starts, he posted a 1-5-1 mark with a 3.82 goals against average and a .892 save percentage. He was assigned to Reading on January 14. Overall, he is 6-1-1 with Reading with a 1.91 goals against average and .938 save percentage.

Hamerik's accomplishment has lowered his overall goals against average by one goal (2.82) and improved his save percentage to above .900 (.914). In addition, he has appeared in three games with Providence this season posting a 1-1-1 record with a 1.91 goals against average and a .939 save percentage.

Reading also announced that they have signed veteran defenseman Keith Cassidy to a contract. He will wear #6 for the Royals. The 30-year-old defenseman began the season with the Western Conference's Texas Wildcatters appearing in 18 games and posting a goal and two points along with 18 minutes in penalties. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has also worn the sweaters of the ECHL's Pensacola Ice Pilots, Mississippi Sea Wolves, Arkansas Riverblades and Huntington Blizzard during his career. He has 139 games of professional experience over a four-year span. His professional totals include: 9 goals, 22 assists for 31 points and 222 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro in 1998, Cassidy spent time in the OHL, WHL, QMJHL and CIAU.

The Reading Royals shoot for their tenth straight victory on home ice this Friday as they battle the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Rieck's Printing has the third series of Royals hockey trading cards which will be available complimentary for the first 2,000 fans. Reading tangles with Bakersfield on Saturday night. The first 2,000 fans in attendance receive a free ice scraper courtesy of Sheetz.
