Alaska Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Las Vegas scored twice within a span of 1:43 to snap a 2-2 tie in an eventual 5-2 victory over the Alaska Aces before 3,720 Tuesday night at Orleans Arena.

Already feeling somewhat victimized by a series of weird bounces previously at Orleans Arena, Alaska caught another bad break when Jonathan Gauthier's attempted rim off the boards caromed off one of the uprights and directly in front of the net, where Ryan Christie beat a surprised Lance Mayes at 6:43. Mayes was caught out of position later in the first period when Dave Cousineau faked a wraparound and fed the puck in the high slot to Jason McBain, whose drive was blocked, but the rebound by Chris Wheaton extended the Vegas margin to 2-0 at 11:28.

The Aces owned most of the second period, outshooting the Wranglers 17-8 and finally breaking through against Vegas netminder Marc Magliarditti at 14:06 when Wes Dorey found Mike Victor for a one-timer. Victor, signed as a free agent less than two weeks ago by Davis Payne and an oil rigger during his "day job," scored his first goal since the 1997-98 season, when he skated for the B.C. Icemen of the United Hockey League.

Joe Talbot tied the game just 56 seconds into the third period, marking the first time all season that Alaska (28-18-4 overall) had scored two goals at Orleans Arena. But the Wranglers quickly responded, scoring twice in less than two minutes to seal their fourth victory in a row over the Aces on home ice. Cam Bristow notched the eventual game-winner at 2:59, while Doug Wright added an insurance goal at 4:42. Bristow's second goal of the night, an empty-netter, capped the scoring with 1:14 remaining.

Alaska, now just 2-5-2 against Las Vegas, returns home for a weekend series against the Long Beach Ice Dogs (17-29-4) at Sullivan Arena, beginning Friday night and continuing Saturday and Sunday evening, with all games set for a 7:00 p.m. face-off. The Aces edged the Dogs 3-2 last Wednesday in Long Beach. This weekend's games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
