Everblades Earn Point in 3-2 Overtime Loss

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (26-19-10) lost to the Pensacola Ice Pilots (25-17-6) 3-2 in overtime before a crowd of 5,964 at TECO Arena Tuesday night.

In the extra period Pensacola forward Aaron Phillips rebound off of a shot struck Florida defenseman Jon Insana and he was not able to stop the puck from sliding past goaltender Robb Zepp for the overtime victory. The Ice Pilots forced overtime when forward Peter Fregoe scored less than a minute into the third period.

In the second period Florida scored the lone goal when Chris Heisten found Tom Buckley cutting to the net. Buckley's second goal since coming out of retirement gave the Everblades a 2-1 lead through two periods.

For the third consecutive game Florida got on the scoreboard first in the opening frame when forward Mark White, who joined the Everblades from the WHA2 league Tuesday, flipped the puck on net from near center ice when the puck took a bad bounce and went past Eklund for a 1-0 Everblades lead. Pensacola would tie the game at one late in the period on a Corey Neilson goal.

Zepp stopped 34 of 37 shots. Eklund stopped 32 of 34 shots. Florida finished 1 for 4 on the power play while Pensacola went 0 for 1.

The Everblades begin a three game road trip starting this Friday night, February 20th as they will take on the Augusta Lynx. Saturday night Florida will be in Florence to take on the Pride. Game time for both games is 7:00 p.m. The Everblades wrap up there road trip on Sunday, February 22nd as they will take on the Southern Division leader Columbia Inferno. The puck drops at 4:05 p.m. Florida will return to TECO Arena on Friday, February 27th when they open a two game series against the Columbus Cottonmouths. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
