Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Dave Farrish announced today the IceGators have traded for gritty forward Josh Bennett from the Texas Wildcatters, in exchange for right wing Chris Taliercio.

Bennett, a 6'0" 205lb winger, is in his second professional season. Last year the native of Ottawa, Ontario played in 35 games for the Mississippi Sea Wolves, scoring 1 goal and amassing 155 penalty minutes. This season Bennett began the year with the Augusta Lynx, collecting 7 goals, 8 assists and 137 penalty minutes. Bennett was traded from Augusta to Texas on February 5, 2004, but did not suit up for the Wildcatters.

"We felt that we needed to solidify our left wing position with the injury to Brian Herbert and have a more physical presence on the ice to replace Dennis Shiryaev. In trading for Josh Bennett we feel we have accomplished both goals," said Dave Farrish. "It won't take long before our fans discover that they really like Bennett's style of play".

Chris Taliercio was on his second stint with the IceGators after beginning the season with the now defunct Columbus Stars of the United Hockey League. In fifteen games with Louisiana this season, the Dartmouth graduate scored 1 goal and added 2 assists.

Bennett is expected to join the IceGators in time for this weekend's two game road trip. Bennett should make his Louisiana debut this Friday night when the Gators travel to Columbus, GA. to take on the Columbus Cottonmouths at 6:30pm CST.
