
Hall's Homer Lifts Beach Bums

TRAVERSE CITY, MI-J.T. Hall's three-run home run in the fifth inning helped the Traverse City Beach Bums win the first game of their six game homestand on Tuesday with a 5-4 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies in front of 1,648 fans at Wuerfel Park.
Traverse City opened the scoring in the first inning when Hall delivered an RBI-single to make it 1-0. First baseman Chase Burch scored on an error by Gateway second baseman Jeremy Cresswell to make it 2-0.
The Grizzlies tied the game when catcher Landon Hernandez and right fielder Jason Patton launched solo home runs to make it 2-2. An RBI-single in the fourth inning from left fielder Brandon Peters and a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Charlie Lisk gave Gateway a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Beach Bums went ahead when Hall launched his sixth home run of the season, and second in as many games to give Traverse City it a 5-4 lead. Hall hit eight home runs all of last season, and already has six through the first 16 games in 2011.
Traverse City's bullpen pitched well to preserve its one run lead. Traverse City starting pitcher Andy Paulun (2-0) pitched five innings allowing four runs to record his second win of the season. Gateway starting pitcher Josh Whitlock (2-2) pitched seven innings and allowed five runs (one earned) in suffering the loss for the Grizzlies, his second of 2011. Scott Mueller pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to pick up the save for the Beach Bums, his third of the season.
The Beach Bums improve to 6-10 with the win, while the Grizzlies fall to 10-6 on the season.
