Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums received a three-run homer from J.T. Hall in the fifth inning to give them a 5-4 win over the Gateway Grizzlies Tuesday night at Wuerfel Park. The loss snapped the Grizzlies four game winning streak and dropped their record to 10-6. The Beach Bums snapped a four game losing streak with the win and improved to 6-10.
The Beach Bums scored two runs in the first inning on two hits and one Grizzlies error.
The Grizzlies wasted no time with an answer. Landon Hernandez and Jason Patton both hit solo homers in the second to tied the game at two.
The Grizzlies scored single tallies in the fourth and fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Brandon Peters had an RBI single in the fourth while Charlie Lisk notched a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
The Beach Bums took advantage of a Grizzlies miscue in the fifth to regain the lead. After Zach Pace grounded out to second, Grizzlies shortstop Ryan Khoury committed an error. Gateway starter Josh Whitlock struck out Matt Brown before walking Chase Burch. With runners on first and second, Hall followed with a three-run homer to left-center to give the Beach Bums a 5-4 lead, which they would never relinquish.
Whitlock took the loss for Gateway, giving up just one earned run in five innings. Andy Paulun got the win for Traverse City and Scott Mueller earned the save.
The Grizzlies and Beach Bums resume their three game series on Wednesday with a 6:05 CT start. Adrian Garza (2-1) will get the nod for Gateway on Wednesday night.
