River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - The River City Rascals are proud to announce that staff ace Gary Moran (2-0, 1.57 ERA) has been signed by the Atlanta Braves organization and will report to the South Atlantic League Class-A affiliate Rome Braves on Wednesday.

Moran, drafted in the 41st round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the San Francisco Giants out of Sonoma State, was signed by River City before the 2010 season and went on to post the second-best earned run average in franchise single-season history (2.68). After striking out 98 in 111 innings pitched last season, Moran began this season with 23 strikeouts and five walks in 23 innings of work while holding opponents to a .176 batting average.

"Gary was the top starter in the league last season and worked extremely hard over the winter", said Rascals manager Steve Brook after sending his 4th player on to sign with a MLB affiliate in just his second year at the helm, "I fully expect Gary to have continued success with the Braves".

Moran is the third Rascal in the last two years to sign with the Braves following Keenan Wiley and Jason Lowey whose contracts were both purchased by Atlanta last summer.

With Moran slated to start game one of a six-game road trip, and three-game series in Rockford tonight, River City will instead send former Central Missouri standout Don Lisi to the mound to make his professional debut.
