Sanders Provides Spark as Rascals Win Fourth Straight
June 7, 2011 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release
Loves Park, Ill. - Doug Sanders is back with the Rascals full time and had an immediate impact, with a three hit, three RBI game, including a two-run homerun in the top of the ninth to extend the Rascals lead to 8-4 en-route to their fourth-straight win.
River City (10-6) took the lead in the first on a Stephen Holdren three-run homerun and added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
The RiverHawks would not surrender a hit the next four innings as Rockford (7-9) climbed back with two runs in the fourth off starter Don Lisi (1-0) making his professional debut, and added two more in the seventh to close to 5-4.
Chad Maddox led of the eighth with a homerun to give the Rascals a two-run cushion before Sanders' heroics sealed the win.
The two teams have split the first four games of the season and continue the three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 as Josh Lowey (0-1, 3.32) throws against lefty Alex Szymanski (2-0, 3.64). You can catch all the action on Westplex News-Talk 94.1 or online at westplexnewstalk.com.
