Gateway Grizzlies News Release
Brandon Peters and Charlie Lisk each homered twice Sunday night to lead the Gateway Grizzlies to an 9-8 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts in the finale of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark. The Grizzlies took two out of three for the series win.
Peters homered to lead off the first inning, putting the Grizzlies up 1-0. After a Stephen Holdren double, Lisk hit a two-run shot to make it 3-0 Grizzlies (15-26). Chad Rothford followed two-batters later with a solo homer to make it 4-0 Gateway after one inning.
Windy City (23-19) roared back with a five-run second inning to move ahead of the Grizzlies 5-4.
Peters' second home run of the night came in the fourth with two on. The towering drive to right cleared the back wall, and put the Grizzlies up 7-5.
Windy City answered again with two runs in the top of the fifth to even the score at seven.
Lisk's second homer came with two outs in the seventh. The solo shot, his 15th of the year, hit high off the office building in left, and put the Grizzlies on top 8-7. Joseph Scaperotta followed with a walk, stole second base and scored on an error to put the Grizzlies up 9-7.
Windy City catcher Dan Jordan made it 9-8 in the ninth with a lead off home run, his second of the game. It came off Grizzlies reliever Joel Boeschen. Gilberto Mejia followed and reached on a throwing error by Boeschen. Mejia stole second and went to third on a wild pitch with one out. Following a walk, Mejia tried to steal home, but was caught by Boeschen for the second out in the inning. Boeschen struck out pinch-hitter Zach Aakhus to end the game, earning his second save in as many tries.
Reliever Jamie Arneson, making his Grizzlies' debut, tossed two scoreless innings to earn the win. He struck out four, and allowed only a single hit.
Monday is a league-wide off-day. The Grizzlies finish the first half of the season with a six-game trip beginning Tuesday night at Lake Erie. First pitch Tuesday is set for 6:05 pm, central time.
