Crushers Take Win Over Freedom

Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Avon, OH - Kevin Skogley tossed the first complete game shutout in Lake Erie Crusher history on Sunday as the lefty went the distance and struck out ten in a 8-0 victory over the Florence Freedom at All Pro Freight Stadium.
"What can you say about what Kevin did? How about dominating? He works so hard and it's good to see him get such good results," said Lake Erie skipper John Massarelli.
Skogley allowed just four hits and two walks and only one batter reached second base all game. "I've been working with our pitching coach Chris Steinborn on fine tuning my mechanics, especially my fastball and that really seemed to pay off today," said Skogley afterwards. His defense also gave him a hand as the Crushers turned three double plays in the first five innings.
Lake Erie jumped on Florence's spot starter Julio Soriano early in the first inning as Drew Saylor hit an RBI single and Andrew Davis and Eddie Tisdale added run scoring doubles. Davis also scored on a double-steal as the Crushers took a 4-0 lead. Davis added another run in the second on an RBI single that brought home Jodam Rivera.
The Crushers would leave no doubt in the fifth inning as Arden McWilliams hit a three-run homer to left-center field off of Freedom reliever Jordan Towns to give Lake Erie an 8-0 advantage. The home run was the fourth of the year for McWilliams.
Lake Erie improves to 24-17 on the season and the shutout from Skogley ups his record to 3-1. Soriano drops to 3-3. The Crushers will take Monday off and then continue their homestand on Tuesday as they'll host the Gateway Grizzlies at 7:05.
