Rockford RiverHawks News Release
LOVES PARK, Ill. - On Sunday four Rockford RiverHawks players were named to the 2009 Frontier League West Division's all-star team.
Outfielder Jason James will join pitchers John Muller, Tanner Watson and Kyle Wright in representing the âHawks as they host the All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 15, at Road Ranger Stadium.
Players were voted to the team by Frontier League managers, coaches, broadcasters and writers. The manager of each division leader as of the end of play on July 8, 2009, manages each division's all-star team.
James, a previous two-time all-star (2007, 2008), will be a starting outfielder. James is the league leader in batting average (.446), hits (70), and on-base percentage (.492). He currently has a league-best hitting streak of 30 games, which ties the league record for a single season.
Watson (3-0, 2.70) returned to the RiverHawks in June, the team with which he previously spent three seasons (2005-2007). Watson has no losses in his four appearances this season, all as a starter. He is the Frontier League active wins leader with 26 career victories.
Wright (4-1, 2.22) is among the league leaders for best ERA, strikeouts (51), and innings pitched (56 2/3). Wright pitched at least five innings in each of his eight starts this season and has one complete game victory. This is his first nomination to the All-Star team.
Muller (1-3, 2.89) played the role of closer for the RiverHawks this season. He is tied for second in the Frontier League with nine saves. This is his first appearance on All-Star team.
Tickets are available for the All-Star festivities at Road Ranger Stadium on July 14 - 15, 2009. Tuesday, July 14 will feature a Cubs/Sox Legends game at 6:00 p.m. and the Frontier League Home Run Derby at 8:30 p.m. The All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the All-Star Game are $15. A two-day pass for all events at Road Ranger Stadium is $25.
