TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums concluded a six-game homestand by falling to the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti 7-3 at Wuerfel Park on Sunday night, an evening when Nick Vujicic made an inspirational speech in a pregame ceremony.

The Sliders plated two runs in the third inning on a couple sacrifice flies, and added a run in the fourth when Clay McCord singled, stole two bases, and scored on a sacrifice fly. Ben Barrone, who had three hits in the contest, homered in the sixth.

Jason Kiley took the loss for the Beach Bums, falling to 3-5 after throwing six innings. He allwed five runs but only three were earned. Shawn Joy surrendered two unearned runs in the seventh while Chris Kupillas and Jeff Williams each worked scoreless frames.

Andrew Barbaro accounted for the final score when he hit a two-run homer off Midwest starter Mike Penn in the bottom of the eighth. Kyle Maunus had singled to start the frame. Penn worked into the ninth to record the win, striking out seven. He faced the minimum for a stretch of four innings in the middle of the contest.

The Beach Bums have an offday on Monday before hitting the road to begin a six-game roadtrip on Tuesday at Rockford. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05pm.
