Grizzlies Fall to Indy 3-2

West Valley City, Utah - Matt Berry and Caleb Herbert each scored for Utah tonight but the Indy Fuel defeat the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 at Maverik Center on Friday night.

Utah took a 1-0 lead on a Matt Berry power play goal 10:49 into the first period. Austin Carroll got an assist to extend his point streak to 9 straight games. Kevin Davis got his 14th assist on the year, which leads all ECHL defenseman.

Indy responded with a power play goal 53 seconds later as Josh Shalla tied up the game 1-1.

It remained a 1-1 game until Matt Rupert gave Indy a 2-1 lead with 41 seconds left in the third period. Indy extended the lead to 3-1 early in the third period on a Kevin Dufour insurance goal 3:52 into the frame.

Utah was able to get a Caleb Herbert goal with 1:40 left with the Grizzlies net empty to make things interesting for the last couple of minutes. Kevin Davis and Taylor Richart each had shots late but Fuel goaltender Matt Tomkins and the Indy defense closed the door on a 3-2 Fuel victory.

Tomkins stopped 28 of 30 shots for Indy. Joe Cannata stopped 25 of 28 shots for the Grizzlies, who's record goes to 8-2-3 on the year. Indy goes to 7-6 on the year.

The rubber match of the 3 game series is Saturday night at Maverik Center. 7 pm face-off. It's Angel's Hands night where the Grizzlies are going to be wearing specialty jersey's that will be auctioned off after the game. It's also a coat drive presented by Ford.

Grizzlies notes: All 3 players who received 3 star recognition had the same first name.
