Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Nathan Todd scored his sixth goal of the season but the Brampton Beast would fall to the Maine Mariners 3-2 on Saturday night.

Saturday afternoon saw the Brampton Beast face-off against the Maine Mariners for the second time in two days. Brampton won the first ever meeting of the two franchises with a 3-0 shutout on Friday night.

Brampton scored the opening goal for the second game in a row courtesy of Nathan Todd. The two-way forward stuck with the play and was able to rifle a sharp angle shot past the pads of Maine starter Brandon Halverson for a 1-0 lead at 11:37.

Maine responded with a power play goal to end the shutout streak of Beast starter Etienne Marcoux. Brampton was unable to clear the puck out of their zone and Michael McNicholas found the back of the net at 13:12.

The Beast would head into the first intermission tied up 1-1 and trailing in shots by a count of 15-6. Maine continued their assault in the second period with a goal from Drew Melanson.

That gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead at 2:27. Later in the period, the Beast fought back to tie the game. Jordan Henry sent the puck to Ryan Scarfo, who took the shot on goal. Henry followed the play and was able to shoot the rebound home to tie the game 2-2 at 5:35.

The Beast would retire to their locker room tied 2-2 but trailing in shots by a count of 33-19. The third period saw a frantic pace set for the two teams but it was the Mariners who would emerge with the go-ahead goal.

Drew Melanson would win a footrace and find twine to give the Mariners a 3-2 lead at 7:25. It was the first short-handed goal that was scored against the Beast this season. Despite a late Brampton push, the Mariners would hold on to complete the victory.

Halverson would get the win after making 28 saves. Marcoux would be tagged with the loss after making 38 stops for the Beast.

Notes: Molson Three Stars 3) Tianulin (BRA) 2) Melanson (MAN) 1) Todd (BRA). Brampton went zero-for-seven on the power play. Maine scored once and was one-for-five. The Adirondack Thunder come to town Sunday afternoon to take on the Beast. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
