Morning Skate

Streak Snapped: A seven-game win streak for the Mavericks was snapped in last night's game as Stuart Skinner made 42 saves for the home side en route to a 4-0 win for Wichita. The Mavericks remain in first in the Mountain Division despite the setback at 9-2-1 on the year.

Saturday Night's Alright: The Mavericks enter tonight's game a perfect 4-0 on the year in Saturday games. Kansas City has played just one of those four on the road, a 3-2 win at Rapid City on Oct. 20.

Bouncing Back: Fortunately the Mavericks have not had many chances to show how they bounce back from regulation losses, having only had one on the year until last night. Following the team's formerly-lone regulation defeat, a 4-1 loss at Wichita, Kansas City routed the Indy Fuel the next night by a 7-2 tally.

Special Teams Woes: The Thunder potted two power play goals in last night's contest, the most allowed in a single game by the Mavericks this season. To make matters worse, they came within one minute of one another as the home team seized control of the game late in the second period. Overall the Mavericks were just 1-for-6 on special teams on the night, going 0-for-3 on the man-advantage and just 1-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Player to Watch: Mark Cooper. The Mavericks go as Coop goes, and he had been humming up until last night's game. The forward from Scarborough, Ontario entered Friday's contest on a seven-game scoring streak with 14 points in that span and back-to-back three-point efforts, but a stellar showing from Stuart Skinner between the pipes held the Mavericks off the board. Look for the Mavs - led by explosive center Mark Cooper - to bounce back in tonight's game.
