Kansas City Mavericks News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas City Mavericks (10-2-1-0) rebounded nicely from a Friday setback with a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over the Wichita Thunder (5-4-3-1) Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Steven Iacobellis continued his hot weekend with an early goal in the first period, a tally once again on the man-advantage to put the home team on top early just 4:42 into the game. The Mavericks showed resiliency in the frame, though, overcoming an early deficit in shots on goal to take a 13-11 edge into the locker room while David Dziurzynski netted his sixth of the campaign to draw even at one apiece.

A back-and-forth second period ended with the home team on top 2-1, Wichita capitalizing on a 3-on-2 rush with a shot that squeaked through Mason McDonald off the stick of Nolan Vesey, his first professional goal, to give the home team the upper hand.

An early Thunder goal in the third period pushed the home team up 3-1, but the Mavericks came roaring back to the tune of two unanswered scores and a 15-4 discrepancy in shots on goal, tallies from Jared VanWormer and Darian Dziurzynski in the final frame of regulation to push the game to overtime.

After a scoreless overtime period, the Mavericks took the game in a shootout, Mark Cooper and David Dziurzynski scoring in a four-round affair to push Kansas City to a victory.

The Mavericks play host to the Thunder on Friday, a 7:05 p.m. puck drop at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a free Mavericks beanie courtesy of Safelite.
