Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - Stuart Skinner stopped 42 shots and Steven Iacobellis scored twice as Wichita blanked Kansas City by the final of 4-0 on Friday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Skinner claimed his first professional shutout while PC Labrie and Dyson Stevenson each had two points in the winning effort.
Iacobellis got the scoring started at 7:31 of the first period. He received a beautiful pass from Stevenson and buried it past Ben Halford to make it 1-0.
Wichita put the game away in the second period, scoring three times to skate away with the contest. Iacobellis registered his second of the game on the power play at 12:39 as he caught the puck at the left post and beat Halford to make it 2-0. Less than a minute later, Ralph Cuddemi buried a wrist shot from the left hashmark between the circles on the man advantage to make it 3-0. Labrie made it 4-0 at 16:15 as he got to a rebound and increased the lead to 4-0.
Skinner shut the door in the third frame, turning aside 12 more shots including several tough chances from the slot by the Mavericks.
Wichita grabbed its first regulation win since October 20th and snapped Kansas City's seven-game winning streak. Skinner's shutout is the first for a Thunder goalie this season. Labrie and Iacobellis extend their point-streaks to five games. Stevenson added two helpers.
Wichita went 2-for-3 on the power play. Kansas City was 0-for-3 on the man advantage.
Wichita remains at home tomorrow night against the Mavericks. Saturday night is Nickelodeon Night featuring SpongeBob SquarePants.
