November 17, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads (6-7-3) were steadfast in defensive end and capitalized on key chances to take a 3-2 win over the Rapid City Rush (7-6-2) on Friday Night at CenturyLink Arena.
Despite two close plays by the Rush in the first period with one being called back and both reviewed, the Steelheads held the momentum for much of the frame and cashed in with the opening goal. At 10:05, Steelheads forward Steve McParland ripped a slap shot from the right wall just after a face-off to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
The Rush answered in the second period with two tallies starting at 3:27 from defenseman Riley Weselowski followed by a shorthanded goal at 8:40 from forward Michael Turner to take a 2-1 lead. On the same power play, Steelheads forward A.J. White pushed in a knuckling puck from the left post on a rush at 9:47 to tie the game, 2-2. A second power play goal came from Steelheads defenseman Colton Saucerman at 19:17 on a backhanded shot in the left circle to push ahead, 3-2.
The Steelheads locked in defensively in the third period including on three penalty kills, and the effort helped to take the 3-2 win. Steelheads goaltender Tomas Sholl (2-2-0) turned aside 20 of 22 shots in the win, while Rush netminder Michael Bitzer (3-2-1) stopped 26 of 28 shots in the loss.
