DULUTH, GA - Dominic Alberga netted a hat trick and tallied an assist, while Ty Reichenbach made 35 saves on 38 shots to lead the Norfolk Admirals past the Atlanta Gladiators Friday Night at Infinite Energy Arena. Nolan LaPorte had a goal and two assists for Atlanta. Norfolk (9-5-0-1 19 Points) reclaims sole possession of first place in the South Division with the win.

There was no scoring through the first period of play. Norfolk outshot the Gladiators 17-16 in the first period.

Atlanta got on the board first with a goal from Garrett Ross. Justin Macdonald knocked down Jalen Smereck at the red line, which led to a three on one for the Gladiators. MacDonald gathered the puck at the red line, skated into the Norfolk zone, and then passed the puck to Nolan LaPorte in the right circle. LaPorte passed the puck across the ice into the left circle to Garrett Ross who shot the puck and beat Ty Reichenbach on the left side to give Atlanta the 1-0 lead at 4:06 of the second period.

The Admirals would answer with a goal of their own at 8:01 of the second period. Ty Reichenbach made a point-blank save in the Norfolk end, which led to an Admirals rush the other way. The Admirals entered the Atlanta zone with Connor Hurley possessing the puck just outside the right circle.

Hurley passed the puck over to Jalen Smereck at the left point. Smereck passed the puck back to Graves at the right point, who shot the puck and found the back of the net beating Svoboda on the right side to even the score at one.

Atlanta would once again reclaim the lead a short while later. Norfolk failed to clear the puck in their own zone. MacDonald found the puck in the Norfolk zone along the right wall and passed the puck to Nolan LaPorte between the circles who beat Ty Reichenbach below the left pad to give Atlanta back the lead at 9:23 of the second period.

Atlanta added another goal late in the second period on the power play. Jesse Gabrielle gathered the puck at the point in the Norfolk end. Gabrielle passed the puck to LaPorte in the left circle, who then found Alex Overhardt in the slot. Overhardt took a slap shot and beat Reichenbach on the glove side to extend the Atlanta lead to 3-1 at 18:04 of the second period.

Norfolk would make it a one goal lead with 1:13 to go in the second period. Luke Nogard grabbed possession of the puck and made a strong move to the right side of the net. Nogard shot the puck, which was initially saved, but the rebound drifted across the crease, and Dominic Alberga was there to put it home on the left side of the net which beat a sprawling Svoboda to make the Atlanta lead 3-2 at 18:47 of the second period.

The Admirals evened the score on a power play goal from Daniel Maggio. The Gladiators failed to get the clear on the penalty kill, and that allowed Norfolk to keep the puck in the Atlanta end. Dominic Alberga got the puck in the high slot and passed the puck to Zane Schartz just above the right circle. Schartz passed the puck to Maggio at the point in the middle of the ice, who unloaded a blast which beat Svoboda on the stick side as Norfolk tied the game at 5:52 of the third period.

The Admirals took the lead at 10:08 of the third period. After Patrick D'Amico drew a tripping penalty in the Atlanta zone, it led to an offensive zone faceoff. Luke Nogard won the faceoff in the Atlanta end and passed it back to the point for Melancon. Melancon teed off a slap shot, which was tipped on the way to the net by Alberga, and it found the net beating Svoboda to give Norfolk a 4-3 lead.

Dominic Alberga would later add an empty net goal late to complete the hat trick and seal the Norfolk victory by a 5-3 score.

Ty Reichenbach made 35 saves on 38 shots to claim his sixth win on the year for Norfolk, while Miroslav Svoboda made 47 saves on 52 shots and takes the loss for Atlanta. Norfolk posted a season-high 52 shots in the contest.
