June 27, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release
FLORENCE, KY - Six is a magic number for the Gateway Grizzlies. For the second straight game, a six-run night helped the Grizzlies pick up a victory, as they defeated the Florence Freedom 6-4 Wednesday night at the Home of the Freedom.
Gateway (18-19) collected nine hits in the game, including three a piece from Jerod Yakubik and Chris McClendon. Yakubik drove in three runs while McClendon reached base four times.
Tim Brown (4-2) got the win for the Grizzlies after pitching another strong game. Brown fired six-plus innings, allowing only two earned runs on eight hits. Zac Treece pitched two scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out four. Richard Barrett pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his sixth save of the campaign.
The Grizzlies took a two-run lead in the first and after the Freedom (21-16) tied the game in the third, the Grizzlies scored a run in the fourth on a Landon Hernandez solo home run to take a lead that they never gave back.
The Grizzlies and Freedom play game two of the series Thursday night in Florence, KY. Right hander Ja'Vaun West (1-2) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 EST.
