Game #37 - Home Game #19 (17-19), (8-10)

Last time out.
Joliet's lineup exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning en route to a 10-1 victory in Crestwood on Monday. Jimmy Waters and Brad Netzel notched singles to open the game, and Waters came around to score on the first of three fielding errors by Windy City third baseman Travis Weaver, taking the 1-0 lead. They pulled further ahead in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Zach Mandelblatt and Josh Lyon later scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead. The Slammers put the game out of reach in the seventh inning. Joliet quickly loaded the bases and proceeded to draw seven walks, along with an RBI single from Kyle Maunus, to take a ten-run lead. Jim Schult threw a seven-inning gem, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and fanning three. Brian Smith and Amalio Diaz finished the game in relief. The win salvaged the finale of the three-game set with Windy City.
For Starters.
Steven Maxwell is coming off a dominant outing against the Schaumburg Boomers as he threw seven and a third no-hit innings. Maxwell ended up going eight innings in the game and gave up only one run on two hits. He walked three and struck out six. The rookie right-hander has gone seven or more innings in five of his seven starts for Joliet. Maxwell put up outstanding numbers at Division One powerhouse Texas Christian University and got drafted twice, once by the Minnesota Twins, and once by the Chicago Cubs. Maxwell's junior season at TCU saw him tally an 11-2 record with a 2.70 ERA. Maxwell tossed 103.1 innings that season and struck out 93 batters while only walking 34 in 18 starts. He was a 2010 2nd-team Louisville Slugger all-American, the 2010 Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year, a 2010 1st-team All-Mountain West Conference selection, a 2010 ABCA 2nd-team All-Midwest Region selection and he made the 2010 NCAA Fort Worth Regional All-Tournament Team. His pitching helped lead TCU to the College World Series. Maxwell was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 12th round of the 2010 draft but elected to return to TCU for his senior season. Injuries shortened Maxwell's senior campaign but the right-hander still went 5-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 11 starts. He was named to the All-Mountain West 2nd Team at the end of the season. Maxwell finished his collegiate career with a 21-5 record and a 3.43 ERA. He was chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the 37th round of the 2011 draft.
