Otters Rally Falls Short in Loss at Rockford

(LOVES PARK, Illinois) --- b0 The Evansville Otters trailed early against Rockford, surged back to within a run but still dropped a 14-8 decision at the RiverHawks on Wednesday night.

The teams were scoreless over the first 2 1/2 innings, until Rockford rallied for four runs in the second and three more runs in the fourth.

Down 7-0, Evansville chipped away at the deficit in the fifth when outfielder DeAngelo Mack hit a two-run double, and designated hitter Andrew Kuhn crushed a two-run homer to center field.

Rockford would keep on scoring through against Evansville starter Matt Crim and reliever Dan Marcacci.

Trailing 9-4, the Otters would strike again in the seventh inning. After reliever Andrew Armstrong walked the bases loaded, Rockford would surrender a run on a fielding error and watch infielder Taylor Black clear the bases on a three-run double to right field.

After Evansville pulled within a run, Rockford would score another two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning and add another three runs in the eighth for the win.

The RiverHawks improve to 12-24 with the win as the Otters drop to 15-22.

Starter Drew Rucinski (3-1) receives the victory for Rockford, allowing four runs in 5.0 innings. Crim (0-5) takes the loss for Evansville, yielding seven runs in 4.0 innings.

The Evansville Otters will now try to tie up the series on Thursday night. Right-hander Bryce Morrow (2-3, 4.31 Earned Run Average) will start for the Otters as he will be opposed by lefty Mike Lee (2-0, 2.20 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT at RiverHawks Stadium.
