Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio - Paul Fagan went the distance on Wednesday evening at All Pro Freight Stadium, as the Lake Erie Crushers scored seven times on 13 hits, in a 7-1 victory over the River City Rascals.

The Crushers (17-20) have now won three in a row, marking their second longest winning streak of the season, while the loss for the Rascals (22-15) was their ninth on the road this season.

Lake Erie wasted no time getting started. Fagan (3-3) worked himself out of a jam in the first inning. The Rascals had runners on first and second with nobody out, but couldn't push any runs across.

Adrian Ortiz started the bottom of the first with a base hit to extend his hitting streak to 19 games. Jason Taylor then smashed a two-run bomb, his fifth of the season to put the Crushers ahead. J.C. Figueroa capped the big inning with a two out RBI single.

The Crushers struck again in the bottom of the third. They scored four times on three hits and did all of their damage with two outs. Wally Correa belted a two out RBI single to plate Andrew Davis. On the play, the Rascals failed in an attempt to get both Figueroa and Correa in a rundown, and the mistake came back to cost them. Ortiz struck again with a bases loaded triple to cap the big inning.

Fagan was one out away from a complete game shutout, when Eric Williams stepped in with a man on second and two out. Williams hit a ground ball right back to the mound, but Fagan made an errant throw to first, which allowed Chris Andreas to score from second, registering River City's lone run.

The complete game was Fagan's second of the season. He allowed just the unearned run on eight hits while fanning five in the process. River City's Preston Vancil (1-4) allowed seven runs on 10 hits over five innings and took the loss.

All nine in the starting lineup for the Crushers reached safely. Andrew Davis paced the Crushers offensively, going 3-for-4 with a trio of singles. Taylor's two run homer extended his hitting streak to seven games and his on base streak to 22. Russ Moldenhauer reached on a first inning single, and has now reached in 18 straight games.

The Crushers will continue their three game series against the River City Rascals at All Pro Freight Stadium on Thursday night. Right hander Trevor Longfellow (2-2, 4.06) will start for the Crushers, and the Rascals will counter with right hander Adam Worthington (0-0, 0.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
