Designated hitter Ken Gregory hit a one out grand slam to give the Miners a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning off Maxwell. The Miners added another run off Maxwell in the top of the fourth inning when Jake Kaase hit a solo home run to give the Miners a 7-4 lead.
The Slammers scored a run off Harden in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 7-5 in the favor of the Miners. The Miners came right back in the top of the eighth inning with three runs to take a 10-5 lead. Two errors and a base hit by Carlos Mendez (all unearned) helped give the Miners a five run lead. The Slammers scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth off Ryan Quigley to cut the lead to three 10-7.
The Miners scored another run in the top of the ninth to take a 11-7 lead. Abel Nieves homered for Joliet in the bottom of the ninth off Anthony Collazo to cut the lead 11-8.
