Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, took down the division-leading Schaumburg Boomers with a convincing 5-3 victory Wednesday evening at the Corn Crib. Normal starter Ryan Krumlauf (2-1) got the win for the 'Belters, surrendering just one earned run over seven innings pitched, while Cameron Roth (4-2) registered the loss for Schaumburg. Closer Marshall Schuler recorded his third save of the season.

Normal jumped on the board early as a two-out single from right fielder Steven Felix brought home shortstop Patrick McKenna to give the 'Belters an early 1-0 advantage.

Schaumburg got a run of their own in the top of the 2nd when Chad Mozingo scored on a single by Nate Baumann to knot the score up at one run apiece.

Normal regained the lead in the bottom of the 2nd when second baseman Chico Gomez belted a two-run shot over the wall in left, bringing in third baseman Pat Dockendorf. An inning later Felix crossed the plate when designated hitter Robert Brooks reached base on a two-out Boomer throwing error. Brooks added to the 'Belter advantage when he came in to score on a single by Dockendorf, pushing the score to 5-1 in favor of Normal.

Schaumburg got a run back in the 5th when a 'Belter error allowed Mike Valadez to come home. They would add another unearned run in the 6th, cutting the Normal lead to just two, but would get no closer.

Normal will send RHP Tyler Lavigne (3-1, 2.49 ERA) to the mound in game two of the series to face off against RHP Robby Donovan (4-1, 3.95 ERA) of Schaumburg, Thursday night at the Corn Crib. Pregame on WJBC.com at 6:20.
