Tri-City Storm News Release
Ralston, Ne. - Mattias Goransson's 3-on-3 overtime goal wiped out a third-period comeback by the Omaha Lancers, stashing the Tri-City Storm to a 4-3 win Friday from Ralston Arena.
Starting from the right wing, John Marino pinched a pass to Goransson, who wrapped a forehand shot around the goalie, Kris Oldham, at the 4:38 mark of overtime, ending a four-game losing streak.
The Lancers tied the game at three with consecutive goals 1:16 apart in the third from Mike Montambault and Nate Krusko.
Goransson erased the comeback, scoring twice for the Storm. The overtime tally was the Storm's third consecutive victory away from the Viaero Center.
Matt Greenfield made 25 saves on 28 shots to earn the victory for Tri-City. Oldham took the loss with 27 saves on 31 Storm shots.
The Storm held a 3-1 edge halfway into the third period. Goransson opened up the scoring at the 12:50 mark of the 1st, wristing a power-play shot high and by Oldham, assisted by Carson Meyer and Nico Sturm.
Tri-City finished 1-for-4 on the power play and is 4-for-15 on the man up away from home. The Storm penalty kill finished 3-for-3.
Both Meyer and Sturm garnered multi-point nights. Following the Storm's first short-handed goal of the season from Paul Washe at 15:43 of the second, Meyer wristed a shot from the left doorstep past Oldham five minutes into the third to give Tri-City a 3-1 edge.
Meyer leads the Storm with five goals and seven points. Washe's goal was his first in the USHL.
Seven minutes later, the Lancers struck with consecutive goals 76 seconds apart to even the score.
The Storm travels to Sioux City to match the Sioux City Musketeers at 7:05 p.m. Check out the 6:45 p.m. pregame show on The Breeze 94.5.
The Storm is home with a pair of games against Waterloo on Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
