Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (5-2-0) will look to win its third straight home game and extend a team-best five game win streak overall as they welcome the Bloomington Thunder (4-5-0) for the first time in 2015-16 on Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center.

Both squads are coming off hard-fought victories on Friday night. The Thunder played host to the defending Clark Cup champion Sioux Falls Stampede and survived a late Stampede push, 4-3, which featured seven minutes of Sioux Falls power play time in the second half of the final period. Verona, Wis. native Tarek Baker had a goal and an assist for the Thunder in the victory.

Bloomington has had trouble putting the puck in the net, as the win Friday was just the second time all season the club potted three or more goals through the season's opening nine games. Madison, on the other hand, has produced three goals or more in six of its first seven contests, while tallying four or more on four occasions.

The Thunder got the best of Madison in the 2014-15 season series, winning three of the four meetings while only allowing nine goals to the Capitols. Hayden Lavigne recorded two wins over Madison while posting a goals-against average a touch over 2.00.

Madison picked up its club record fifth straight victory despite being outshot 31-18 by the Chicago Steel in a 2-1 victory. Garrett Metcalf's 30 saves and a 5-for-6 penalty kill helped Madison keep Chicago at bay, while Alec Broetzman and Tommy Muck scored 2:27 apart in the middle frame to propel Madison.

The Capitols' penalty kill has had a lot more work in the last three weeks, going 21 for its last 23 against opponent power plays. Metcalf has also shaken off a rough start to his season, turning aside 67 of the last 69 pucks fired his way.

Madison will wrap up the three-game weekend homestand at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday against Chicago for Pucks N' Paws presented by Animart. Fans are welcome to bring their dogs to the Coliseum and receive specialty goody bags courtesy of Animart. Puck drop on Sunday is set for 4 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
