Chicago Steel News Release
GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - The Green Bay Gamblers (3-4-0-1, 7 points) scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Chicago Steel (3-6-0-0, 6 points) 4-1 in front of 3,217 fans Saturday at Resch Center. Four different Gamblers scored as Green Bay improved to 2-0-0-0 against the Steel this season.
Chicago opened up the scoring for a fifth consecutive game, as former Gambler defenseman Adam Parsells recorded his first goal since being acquired by Chicago last week, sending a rocket from the left point past the glove of Green Bay goaltender Adam Huska at 16:42 of the 1st period.
The game became increasingly physical in the second period, including the first fight of the season for Chicago, as winger Nico Blachman tangled with Green Bay defenseman Connor Mackey. The Gamblers gained momentum throughout the period, posting 16 shots on Steel netminder John Lethemon, and eventually tying the game on a quick shot in front by former Steel forward Connor Murphy.
Green Bay continued to roll in the third period, taking a 2-1 lead as John Leonard jammed a rebound from the low slot past Lethemon at 10:06. Matthew Berkovitz gave Green Bay a two goal lead at 15:14, and Brett Gruber added the final dagger by tallying an empty net goal with under 14 seconds remaining.
Shots on goal were tied 30-30. Huska made 29 saves for the Gamblers, while Lethemon stopped 26 for Chicago.
The Steel wrap up their first three-in-three of the season with a Sunday matinee at the Madison Capitols. Faceoff is set for 4:05 p.m. CDT. Chicago will look for revenge from a 2-1 loss at Madison on Friday night.
The Steel return home on Friday, November 6 for Military Appreciation Night against the Muskegon Lumberjacks, starting the month that features seven home games.
