
Goehring Displays Skills In All-Star Competition

HEY NOW YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR: Goaltender Karl Goehring represented himself and Syracuse fans well in last night's Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition, losing out to former Crunch netminder Marc Lamothe on a tie-breaker in the Dodge Goaltender' Competition. Goehring and Lamothe each stopped 13 of 19 shots in the three goaltending events. Lamothe claimed the top goaltender spot by stopping one more shot that Goehring in the CCM Breakaway Relay. Goehring, the first goaltender in Crunch history to compete in an All-Star game, has appeared in 27 games for the Crunch this season with a 9-12-1 record, a .251 goals against average and a .918 saver percentage. He is second in the AHL with four shutouts. The Canadian AHL All-Stars go for their second All-Star sweep in as many years when the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic continues on Monday night with the annual AHL All-Star Game.
WESTCOTT MISSES ALL-STAR FESTIVITIES: Crunch defenseman Duvie Westcott did not accompany teammate Karl Goehring to the Dodge AHL All-Star Classic on Sunday due to a mild concussion suffered in Saturday's game against Rochester. Westcott is expected to miss a week with the injury.
GRAND-PIERRE, LING RECALLED: The Crunch announced today that defenseman Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre and right wing David Ling have been recalled by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Grand Pierre appeared in two games during his conditioning stint with the Crunch, recording one goal and six penalty minutes. Ling appeared in two games since he was reassigned to Syracuse on January 31, recording one goal and two assists, including the game-winning overtime goal on Saturday vs. Rochester. In all, Ling has appeared in 46 games with Syracuse, leading the team in assists (34), points (41) and penalty minutes (129). He has appeared in six games with the Blue Jackets this season, tallying one goal, one assist and 12 penalty minutes.
COLUMBUS HERE WE COME: After playing Rochester on Wednesday night at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial, the Crunch will travel to Columbus to play two 'home' games at Nationwide Arena (Friday, February 7 vs. Cleveland and Saturday, February 8 vs. Cincinnati). The Crunch will travel to Columbus in first-class style as the Blue Jackets are lending them their team plane. Tickets are available by calling 614-246-PUCK.

ROCHESTER (BUFFALO SABRES): Syracuse travels to Rochester on Wednesday, February 5 for the fifth of 12 regular season meetings this season. Rochester leads the series 2-1-1. Syracuse defeated Rochester 3-2 in overtime in their last meeting on Saturday, February 1. Rochester right wing Jason Pominville leads all players in head-to-head scoring with five points (2g, 3a). Right wing Matt Davidson leads all Crunch players against Rochester with three points (1g, 2a). Goaltender Ryan Miller has appeared in three games for the Amerks, with a 2-0-1 mark, posting a 0.98 goals against average and .971 save percentage. Karl Goehring has appeared in three games for Syracuse, with a 1-2-0 mark, posting a 3.34 goals against average and .889 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch is 35-45-12 against Rochester.
CLEVELAND (SAN JOSE SHARKS): The Crunch play their first of two games in Columbus at Nationwide Arena on Friday, February 7, against the Cleveland Barons in the third of six regular season meetings. The series is tied at 1 a piece, with Syracuse defeating the Barons 5-4 in their last meeting on December 10. Right wing Niko Dimitrakos (2g, 4a) leads all players in head-to-head scoring with six points. Defenseman Radim Bicanek (1g, 3a) and left wing Mathieu Darche (1g, 3a) pace the Crunch with four points. Cleveland goaltender Vesa Toskala recorded the Barons victory, with a 2.00 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. Goaltender Pascal Leclaire recorded Syracuse's victory, with a 3.61 goals against average and a .857 save percentage. Lifetime, Syracuse is 7-4-1 against the Barons.
CINCINNATI (MIGHTY DUCKS OF ANAHEIM): Syracuse plays their final of two games in Nationwide Arena on Saturday, February 8 against Cincinnati in the final of six regular season meetings. Syracuse leads the series 3-2-0, after being defeated by the Mighty Ducks 3-1 in their last meeting on December 18. Syracuse's left wing Andrej Nedorost (5g) and Cincinnati's right wing Jonathan Hedstrom (2g, 3a) lead all players with five points in head-to-head scoring. Goaltender Jean-Francois Damphousse has appeared in four games for the Mighty Ducks with a 2-2-0 record, posting a 2.47 goals against average and a.906 save percentage. Karl Goehring has appeared in net two times for Syracuse with a 1-1-0 record, posting a 2.93 goals against average and .897 save percentage. Lifetime, Syracuse is 10-19-2 against Cincinnati.
PHILADELPHIA (PHILADELPHIA FLYERS): The Crunch finish the week in Philadelphia on Sunday, February 9 for the fourth of six regular season meetings. Philadelphia leads the series 2-1-0. Philadelphia shut out Syracuse 2-0 on January 5, the last time these clubs' met. Right wing David Ling leads all players in head- to-head scoring with four points (1g, 3a). Defenseman John Slaney (1g, 2a) and right wing Kirby Law (2g, 1a) pace the Phantoms with three points a piece. Philadelphia goaltender Neil Little had appeared in three games with a 2-1-0 record, a 1.67 goals against average and .923 save percentage. Pascal Leclaire has appeared in two games for Syracuse with a 0-2-0 mark, a 3.06 goals against average and a .896 save percentage. Lifetime, Syracuse is 7-15-7 against the Phantoms. INJURY UPDATE: Defenseman Darrel Scoville is expected to miss two-to-three weeks with a foot injury suffered on January 6 @ Philadelphia... Scoville has missed 12 games with the injury... Center Brad Moran is listed as day-to-day with an abdominal injury that he re-injured on January 10 @ Grand Rapids. Moran has missed the last 10 games and a total of 30 games with the injury... Defenseman Duvie Westcott is expected to miss one week after suffering a mild concussion on February 1 against Rochester.
