Checkers Begin Seven-Game Homestand Tuesday

TUESDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will meet the Reading Royals for the third consecutive game in game # 5 of the six-game season series. Charlotte is 2-2-0 versus the Royals so far this season. Brian McCullough leads the Royals in scoring at 29-38-67 while Brad Rooney is right behind at 20-41-61. Jeff Sanger (3.30 GAA, 13-8-1) and Scott Fankhouser (3.86 GAA, 11-12-1) share the netminding duties. Reading's 181 goals for ranks 2nd in the ECHL, while the Royals 191 goals against ranks 1st in the ECHL.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will host the Trenton Titans in a huge two-game weekend series at Cricket Arena. The Titans are currently holding down the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northeast Division, and enter this week just five points ahead of the Checkers. The Titans start this week with a five-game winning streak, and host Toledo on Wednesday before coming to Charlotte for the two games with the Checkers this weekend. Adam Edinger leads Trenton in scoring at 26-22-48. Goalie Brandon Snee was assigned last week to the Titans from the Hartford Wolf Pack. Snee attended the Checkers training camp before being assigned to Muskegon in the United Hockey League at the start of the season.

CHECKERS RECENT MOVES AND TRANSACTIONS: Saturday, February 1 - The Hartford Wolf Pack assigned left wing Dave Inman to Charlotte. Saturday, February 1 - Charlotte placed defenseman Kenton Smith on the seven-day IR. Saturday, February 1 - Charlotte placed right wing Walker McDonald on the seven-day IR.

NEWS AND NOTES:

• Checkers went 2-1-0 last week.

• Charlotte has won four of its last five.

• Checkers right wing Kevin Caulfield has a four-goal scoring streak alive and has five goals and three assists for eight points in his last six games. He has also scored at least a point in six of his last seven games.

• Checkers center Eddie Pershin is Charlotte's leading scorer at 13-33-46. In his last seven games Pershin has three goals and five assists for eight points. He also has a three-goal goal scoring streak alive and has scored at least one point in six of his last seven games.

• Goalie Scott Meyer has 11 wins since joining the Checkers from the Hartford Wolf Pack on Dec 11. In his last six games Meyer is 5-0 with a 2.72 GAA, including one no-decision.

• Right wing Takahito Suzuki snapped a 13 game goal scoring drought by scoring in a goal in each of Charlotte's last two games. He now has a team-high 17 goals.

• The Checkers are ninth in the ECHL on the power play at 19.84% while 14th on the penalty kill at 82.08%.

• Charlotte has won its' last four home games and five of its' last six on Cricket Arena ice.

* Allan Egeland was the Checkers leading scorer in the month of January with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points. He scored at least one point in 12 of the Checkers 14 games in January.
