Tim Smith recalled to the Moose

The Manitoba Moose announced that they have recalled left wing Tim Smith from the Columbia Inferno of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

Smith, 21, has been playing for Columbia since the start of the 2002-03 season. He was assigned to the Inferno on September 30/02 and had played in 48 ECHL games and posted 36 points (16 goals and 20 assists) with 34 penalty minutes. The Rochfort Bridge, AB native was tied for fourth among Inferno players in scoring and tied for third among active Inferno in goal scoring. He was also tied for ninth among ECHL rookies with his 36 points and had the highest shooting percentage among active ECHL rookies at 19.0% (16g/84s).

The rookie left winger recorded his first hat trick against the Greenville Grrrowl on Jan. 31/03 during a four-point game. He recorded seven points (3g, 4a) in the last three Columbia games.

He played last season with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The 5'9" forward had 75 points (28g, 47a) with 123 PIM in 67 WHL games. In the 2002 WHL Playoffs, Smith added seven goals, six assists in 12 playoff games.

Smith was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks with their seventh choice, 272nd overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. This is his first stint with Manitoba this season.
