Glenn Provides the Heroics in 3-2 Win
May 30, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
There were plenty of superheroes at Coca-Cola Field on Saturday night...but only one had to power to end the game with one swing.
Brad Glenn saved the day, launching a walk-off home run with two outs in the ninth inning of a 3-2 Bisons win over Rochester in front of 13,010 on Superhero Night at the ballpark. The victory gives the Bisons back-to-back wins over the first place Red Wings, closing their gap to just two games.
Glenn's game-winner came on just the second pitch from the third pitcher used by Rochester in hopes of sending the game into extra innings. Michael Tonkin got Alex Hassan to ground out and Ryan O'Rourke struck out Daric Barton. Rochester manager (and former Bisons player) Mike Quade then turned to Lester Oliveros for the final out of the inning.
Glenn watched Oliveros first pitch fastball cut the heart of the plate. The Bisons slugger correctly guessed the righty would come back with a slider on the second delivery and lined the pitch over the wall in right-center field.
For Glenn, the home run was his fifth of the year, tying for the team lead with current Blue Jays slugger Chris Colabello. Glenn finished the game 2-3 with a walk, snapping an 0-for-19 stretch at the plate.
As advertised, Saturday's game was a pitcher's duel between Buffalo's Felix Doubront and Rochester's Tommy Milone as the two pitchers entered the contest with a COMBINED ERA of 0.28. After each team put up two runs early, the hurlers settled into a grove. Doubront faced the minimum 12 batters from the third inning to the sixth. Milone allowed just three hits after the first inning.
Each hurler completed seven innings. Doubront struck out five and walked just two.
The Bisons got on the board in the first inning as rehabbing Blue Jays' catcher Dioner Navarro hit a two-run home run off the left field foul pole. Rochester answered in the second inning on an RBI-single from Jose Martinez and a bases-loaded fielder's choice from Doug Bernier.
Bobby Korecky was credited with the win after pitching a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning.
